I think of myself as being pretty savvy.&nbsp; I\u2019ve been marketing online for 15+ years. Thought I\u2019d seen every sneaky tactic.  Every dirty trick.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But even I still get fooled if I don\u2019t pay close enough attention.&nbsp;I recently saw what might be the best bullshit ad funnel I\u2019ve ever seen.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019m going to explore this in two parts so that:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>a) you don\u2019t fall for it\u2026&nbsp;<br>b) you hopefully learn something from it\u2026&nbsp;<br>c) you AREN\u2019T inspired to do this yourself!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:51px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>The Ad\u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today I\u2019m going to break down the ad and why it hooked me.&nbsp; And yes, \u2018almost\u2019\u2026 fooled Munch.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here it is\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/zZmmeDqPy7deUQXKy7TPc2YsiIRUC4-DP-bRhjUpYhQfaMyBkG9AlWWPVEOOLWhz2m6nlHAFplQi4VX02feGGBjDWVoUGvyq6ttib491DUFLJUrz1BXwTa0gFDQn-kK6zdjkPTvMz00pHYZhqh_FqvtHAu7OG9MFK_faL_vzeHpBj149hti2uOXSlMtx9KCvwBo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What do you notice? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The logo is the same\u2026 right? The face? The name? The text <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fontgem.com\/typography-advertising\">fonts<\/a>? I admit; I don\u2019t watch a bunch of Mr. Beast videos. This ad was just a 15 second still of that image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:57px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Why It Worked To Get The Click\u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The most difficult part of creating a BS ad is not setting off everyone\u2019s BS sensors. He has about 100M subscribers; I\u2019m not one of them. But I do know OF him\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>I\u2019m not certain if this would work better on people who were very familiar or semi-familiar.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Beast is known for being a philanthropist and throwing a lot of money at his videos with wild projects where lots of people get paid.&nbsp; So on top of the name, logo, face and font\u2026 it \u201cidea\u201d falls in line with his brand.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was plausible. Believable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s known he has a \u201cGaming\u201d YouTube channel as well \u2013 now ok, the lettering is a little off (lower case \u2018b\u2019) so there\u2019s your first clue. But it\u2019s subtle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Personally, I couldn\u2019t recall how the main channels were stylized so I didn\u2019t notice it so obviously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s fairly common for YouTubers to get their channels shut down and have to start alternates; often with the same name with \u201c2\u201d being added. Or \u20183\u2019 if they\u2019re habitual YouTube policy offenders!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could argue \u201cwith 100M subscribers he wouldn\u2019t have to advertise!\u201d and that\u2019s fair. One could argue \u201cthere are 2.1 Billion users though \u2013 how else are you going to reach them\u201d &#8230; Also fair. Plausible even.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:55px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>How I Became Certain It\u2019s B.S.<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I followed the funnel (the link is actually in the ad video\u2019s description \u2013 cleverly hidden to avoid detection)\u2026 and what I saw tipped me off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That was the first time my BS sensors went off for sure. It\u2019s what made me go back and check.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First thing I did was check the channel\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/a2BS_sjFnCK5bGXZeaokAWh0mWCfuw1cHDaB8HBmNXvWrrx5JrhpAiDuAxWdA9n3kWBN0kcdEBSi2d2yCHrS47GTSVhruEP4dDbBi_T1PQM-erY5esWzNRxL9IzDhGk8eyQYh4WZTiF2Yzg5UerfOMeVRDNll_HtMhB7Moz0X1ecLY6DAnAhaIABAjxrVrgeHsY\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>84,000 subscribers? Well ok, that could be legi\u2026&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 with no content.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Impossible. Bullshit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking at it now; you might think it\u2019s obvious. But in the moment \u2013 there was a lot of very, very clever psychology at play here. It almost \u2018deserves\u2019 the click.&nbsp; Except for the fact it\u2019s a lie and outright brand infringement. Don\u2019t do it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:52px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>The Funnel\u2026&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em>UPDATE: Since writing this second section; I expected the ad to have been taken down. Then I saw it again.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Which means two things:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Google \/ YouTube haven\u2019t noticed yet<\/li><li>It\u2019s clearly making good money (nobody this savvy would be spending money on a funnel that didn\u2019t produce profit).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway, back to it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What happens after you click? You hit a landing page! Pretty standard.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I identified 11 things making the page compelling enough to convert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/02T2bkQ7NfvSrofDp6S74wmrL059ekMoeaJ3CafgFPFUsCdcCm5aQpVvGlxqKJ0lNtl0VW-V8d_tlthqH5m7xCNoTxpCGwxw86oaJ8NvYpwqcuS52UeT3kXzFsPbZCaA8a_M_JIVkpg30LbgeD_waDHrezWfYvN_PF3f424cllgUIL9XQ6rxLjRJU5FW16gJCdI\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\">The 11 Legitimate Marketing Elements That Make This Bullshit Funnel Work!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>1. Clear &amp; Concise Benefit-Driven Headline <\/strong>&#8211; People know why they\u2019re there, it\u2019s congruent with the ad, it\u2019s $1,000 for free.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Nothing to think about. Nothing to analyse. Keep reading.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>2. Reserved Reward Inspires Fear Of Loss <\/strong>\u2013 It\u2019s more compelling to \u2018keep what you already have\u2019 vs. \u2018doing more to obtain a reward\u2019.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Much like reserving a table at a restaurant \u2013 even though you haven\u2019t eaten yet, the meal feels inevitable. The subconscious demand congruence, so your actions must fall in line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So stating the reward has been reserved for you, makes it feel more \u2018in your pocket\u2019, like it\u2019s already yours. Inevitable. So you\u2019re now on the path, may as well see it through! Congruence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>3. Clear Action Steps <\/strong>\u2013 A simple 3-step action plan anyone can follow. Nothing to complicate things. No friction. Low effort.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This part is critical since it\u2019s how the advertiser gets paid, as you\u2019re about to see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>4. Availability Scarcity<\/strong> \u2013 Once again, tapping into fear of loss. People will \u2018know\u2019 with 100M other people potentially seeing this offer, those \u20186\u2019 spots will disappear in seconds!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No time to think! No time to doubt! I have it now but I could lose it if I\u2019m not fast enough!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>5. Big Clear Action Button Literally Pointed Out To You <\/strong>\u2013 not much to comment on here, it\u2019s a big button you have to push.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The pointing finger helps \u2013 one might argue it should be a slightly different <a href=\"https:\/\/www.webyurt.com\/best-free-colour-palette-generators-for-designers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">colour<\/a> to help it stands out more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They should probably also put the action steps and button at the end of the page too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But I don\u2019t want to give them any bright ideas&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>6. Time Scarcity <\/strong>\u2013 If the \u2018availability\u2019 scarcity wasn\u2019t enough, there\u2019s literally a countdown on the page.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once again, a visitor may be thanking their lucky stars they got to see this in time! Better not waste it!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course they don\u2019t realise this is a timer programmed to start the countdown as soon as the page loads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Same for the Date, which updates dynamically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>7. Illegitimate Credibility <\/strong>\u2013 Once again, maintaining congruence and \u2018legitimacy\u2019, they reference YouTube. Visitors come from YouTube, it\u2019s a famous YouTuber, people trust YouTube.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>So while YouTube will certainly shut this down as soon as they become aware of what\u2019s going on \u2013 the B.S. advertiser will milk their brand for all it\u2019s worth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>8. Celebrity Social Proof <\/strong>\u2013 First comment apparently from another world-famous YouTuber.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While this entire section is pre-written and programmed in, it gives the appearance of live comments.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s social engagement and social proof\u2026 \u201cif everyone else is doing it, it must be real!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except it\u2019s not.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>9. Viral Incentive \u2013<\/strong> Why wouldn\u2019t you help someone you love get $1,000 for free? These comments are cleverly used to inspire certain thoughts, impulses and actions.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As soon as they read \u201ccan my brothers also claim?\u201d a visitor would think \u201cwho could I share this with? who could I reward with $1,000?\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can imagine you\u2019d get pretty popular pretty fast, showing people how to claim $1,000\u2019s in free money.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Or hey, you might be a bit devious and try to \u2018double up\u2019 your $1,000 reward! Game the system!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Except\u2026 all the advertiser gets is free traffic from the shares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You get nothing. Except ridicule, when your friends make fun of you for falling for an online scam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>10. Success Story <\/strong>\u2013 A quick \u2018natural\u2019 comment to prove it works! More evidence this is legit! (even though it\u2019s completely made up). The rest of the comments follow suit.&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>11. Branded Credibility <\/strong>\u2013 Who would be so brazen as to literally rip off one of the most famous YouTubers in the world?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely YouTube has systems to catch this stuff out!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Surely Mr Beast has an army of lawyers!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It HAS to be legit\u2026 you just can\u2019t get away with this anymore, with copyright strikes being handed out left, right and centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reasonable thoughts\u2026 especially when someone wants it to be so real, they\u2019d rationalise away their common sense.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>12. Mr Beast Himself<\/strong> \u2013 Just in case you needed reminding, this is \u201cdefinitely Mr. Beast\u2019s page\u201d\u2026 there\u2019s his cartoon avatar and everything, just like the real thing!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>13. Extended Credibility \u2013 <\/strong>Legitimate sponsors are sponsoring this too! Look at their logos\u2026 it almost feels like \u2018too much effort\u2019 to be a scam.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Well funny thing about scammers\u2026 they aren\u2019t lazy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Apart from leaning on the brand power of Mr. Beast here; there is a LOT of very savvy marketing happening here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a ton of conversion elements a legitimate brand should be using.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It makes you wonder; if someone is this good at marketing \u2013 what could they accomplish if they used their skills for legitimate offers?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:53px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>What Happens When You \u201cClaim Reward\u201d?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s time to hit another landing page \u2013 and now we\u2019re getting into the underbelly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is hardcore CPA (Cost Per Action) affiliate marketing.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s where the marketer is about to cash in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/7xw0Z2kXlO9YA3hLgSVZ7fw52yid7b8XT0I9BThB4JXFSo6569878uimgMpNU-Z_7PG1CFFYWsd-fDOw_BLXy7W2KRvny8GmGJkownVJEmhuvJhSqX9bo1QpBmHjlZqzMki9-ntEYUHbZMueW5J7wJjAVEiBotq4NqlBiAY0uoslGytMtTWkCV_wDKFVv2EebEo\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This landing page is \u201cwhat you must do to get $1,000\u201d.&nbsp;Clearly stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congruent with the ad and the page before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And still mostly \u2018Beast\u2019 branded (though less obviously). I\u2019m pretty sure that\u2019s the logo in the background. The ears at least. I imagine the offers here are geo-targeted.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in the UK, you\u2019ll see different offers than if you\u2019re in the US, Canada, Australia, Dubai etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You simply have to click the buttons and complete the offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:58px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Offer Selection<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This part is critical. One of the biggest factors in success with CPA and affiliate marketing is offer selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Great offers are easy to convert.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High conversions equal high payouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>High payouts equal more to spend on traffic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>More traffic equals more sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The best advertisers and affiliate marketers in the world are typically the best at offer selection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many affiliates will be attracted to high dollar payouts; $30 and more.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experienced affiliate only looks at ROI (Return On Investment).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>i.e. if I spend $1 on traffic can I expect $2 back?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case; the payouts might only be a dollar per successful conversion. But this affiliate has incentivised people to do TWO offers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Not one. Not three. Two.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They most likely tested one and three offers and found two generates the highest profits. Three is too much work so conversions drop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One doesn\u2019t make as much profit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two offers is the sweet spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most importantly \u2013 these offers are FREE for the visitors to do!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One is downloading an internet browser. The other is entering a prize draw.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Would you download an internet browser and enter a prize draw for $1,000? Many people would&#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8230; unless they knew the $1,000 was bullshit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:54px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>The URL Give Away&#8230;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s what proves beyond doubt this whole thing is bullshit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As though we needed anymore evidence at this point\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Offer #1 \u2013 The Browser\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh4.googleusercontent.com\/wlH21jC8XE0rGxV_UjIiM2EaNo792xfzSfUoDt9LfSVBJBkbLKC8fesF0gk34zX_YRhcGJ3vsTkfsKFNw0r13W--EK8yDyP0HLBPzBoLLUvDJw0PuGWCDRJ41BYhCdqyXtpL07ljW6rvk56N_vFNpiKSjz5auaooEqVoMz-ortylTMX0Z1IXWzUpD9GPFYDlL08\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you look at the URL bar, you can see several mentions of \u201cUTM\u201d, which stands for \u201cUrchin Tracking Module\u201d, which is a snippet of code to pinpoint traffic sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Affiliate programs use these metrics to identify which affiliates are sending traffic, and conversions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you see a string of these; most likely it\u2019s an affiliate deal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:21px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Offer #2 \u2013 The Prize Draw\u2026<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/lh5.googleusercontent.com\/ZpjG-d6Qi5wbFY7xUfYeYJ8CSpzBW6nkzRJ0iAoi0p4YFSlOiBCAwACwBr6fkEAhfnnakikbFl2C7hktyK-UlbZEB4MBgwzqwuSPmZsMPXrRqg8PUVeQEhUSFsrW6KKDJG_vp_NIzR835wbGLwh4VKdBTrwzN_B79He0jRobMNkxmOTjmgb2MNDwLuEdMIqHgAw\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And here you see \u201cAff\u201d tags in the URL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aff = Affiliate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similar to \u2018UTM\u2019 this is another tracking device to assign traffic and conversions to a unique affiliate.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:55px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>What Can We Learn From This?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This ad funnel works because it leverages a very well known and trusted brand.&nbsp; We do this all the time at AmpiFire i.e. leveraging the power and authority of massive brands.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The difference is; we don\u2019t lie and pretend we\u2019re the brand \u2013 we get the brand talking about us and our clients, and publishing our content.<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course \u2013 that\u2019s usually more difficult to do for most. We make it easy, but for anyone not using AmpiFire, it\u2019s tough. These con-artists probably made good money with this ad\u2026 but before too long, it\u2019ll be dead in the water.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Short term vs. Long-term; I choose long-term every time.
