Black Friday and Cyber Monday each occur once per year. It\u2019s well known the deals typically only run for these days. That gives a sense of urgency and action.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use this in your own business outside of these two big buyer days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Train your audience to expect an event, yearly, monthly, even weekly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This could take the form of emails you send, offers you promote, webinars you run, blog posts or videos you publish, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It could take the form of an annual special offer or event you hold, much like Amazon adopted \u201cPrime Day\u201d, away from Black Friday \/ Cyber Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As for scarcity \u2013 this can take many forms (time, quantity, price, conditions&#8230;). You just have to think about your offer and how it fits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>1. Go Heavy&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In terms of actual strategy \u2013 major retailers (and many smaller ones) popularized the black friday \u201cstunt\u201d on high tickets items, discounting by $100\u2019s to $1,000\u2019s in order to bring more traffic (both digital and on foot).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img width=\"706\" height=\"385\" src=\"https:\/\/ampifire.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Walmart.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-7451\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ampifire.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Walmart.jpg 706w, https:\/\/ampifire.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Walmart-300x164.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 706px) 100vw, 706px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>90% is very attractive. 99% off is crazy attractive (people might buy it even if they don\u2019t want it!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>But will it result in you making more money?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If enough people know about the offer and it\u2019s attractive enough \u2013 and there\u2019s scarcity (<em>you remember those videos of people rushing Walmart to grab TVs right<\/em>?), then you might make enough from selling other items or on the back end with new customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And 99% may not be necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>50% or even 20% may do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll need to know your numbers or run a limited low-risk experiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The point is \u2013 you can use the heavy discount as a way to attract attention. What you do with that attention is what matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>8. Extend The Promotion&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although this slightly undermines one of the core reasons why Black Friday and Cyber Monday work so well\u2026 i.e. Scarcity\u2026 i.e. 24 hours only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Extending Black Friday deals to cover a weekend, a full week or even an entire month is becoming more popular.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The argument is what you lose in conversions, you make up for in quantity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Again, you\u2019ll need to know your numbers to know if it\u2019s worth doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just remember \u2013 if every day was Black Friday, it wouldn\u2019t be special anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>9. Dime Sale&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A clever way of increasing scarcity even more is to reduce the discount, the more gets sold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A traditional dime sale starts at a very low price and that price rises $0.10 every time a new item is bought.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When people see this, they buy as soon as they can, to get the best deal\u2026 even if it\u2019s only $0.10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course you can have some variety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjust the price increase ($0.10 might be insignificant when the item you\u2019re selling is priced at $5,000).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjust the quantity interval (every 10 sales vs. every 1 sale etc).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can even adjust the time interval (price rises every 30 minutes, for example).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be done automatically and may need some tech\u2026 or it can be done manually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>10. Viral Incentives&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can offer bigger discounts to people who share your offer. Buy One Get One Free&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cBOGOF\u201d \u2013 one of the oldest sales tactics in the book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Effectively a 50% discount framed as a 100% gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Much more attractive than \u201c2 For 1\u201d as it includes a clearer call to action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Very clever and is a classic for a reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just make sure your profit margins can take it (or adjust price accordingly) \u2013 or that you can make it up on the back end somehow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>12. Bundles&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Offering Black Friday Bundles of products, offers or services is an attractive way to sell more, without getting too specific on exactly how much of a discount is being provided.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The value of a bundle is the sense of \u2018more\u2019 or \u2018completeness\u2019 or \u2018convenience\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>13. Flash Sales\u2026<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the \u2018time\u2019 urgency even further by cutting down the offer window from 24 hours to e.g. 60 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could have, for example, a 20% discount for Black Friday, but for that single hour it\u2019s a 50% discount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Best to give people a lot of advance notice if you\u2019re going to do this, so they can plan ahead and make sure they\u2019re there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amazon does this well (obviously).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>14. Countdown Timers&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is something about seeing a series of numbers approach 00:00:00 zero that make the scarcity feel that much more real and urgent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use them where you can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>15. F*ck Black Friday&#8230;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>And of course, you could simply take the stance of \u201cwe don\u2019t need to discount our offer \u2013 it\u2019s already exceptional value\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could argue this is strong positioning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You could also argue it\u2019s kind of \u2018grinchy\u2019.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Probably best to find a way to offer \u201csomething\u201d extra to make the most of the spirit of the season, which doesn\u2019t involve cutting the price of your offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2>Keep Calm and Continue Making Your Sales<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are 15 ideas you could potentially use.
